Tangai Njanji was born in Chimanimani communal area in 1968. He did his primary education in Nyanyadzi school. During his primary school he was a good craft-man, carving porridge sticks, porridge spoons, knobkerries and also moulding. Tangai Njanji went to Nhedziwa secondary school where he did his secondary education in Mutambara communa area. Completed his “O” levels in 1991 because of stoppages. In 1992 and 1993 he became a builder and was amongst the guys who built the Chitungwiza Dairibord. His young brother Tamuka was a full time sculptor by that time. Using different types of stone like cobalt, serpentine, opal and springstone and many others, creating figures showing human expressions expressing ideas, customs and cultural values of the Shona people. Tangai’s ideas come from critically analysing the human social environment. He mostly creates abstract figures which he mostly sells to prominent collectors in Germany, Belgium, South Africa, USA, France, Holland and many others. Tangai’s wishes are to have works selected for the Zimbabwe Heritage and to host a one man exhibition like what many others did. Exhibitions - Chapungu Gallery - 1996 National Gallery - 1998 In 1996 he exhibited at one of the prominent Zimbabwe gallery’s - Chapungu. His sculpture was bought and selected to appear in the books of Chapungu. The book is called Shona sculpture.
